Title: Official DejaVu Removal Thread
jonrev - November 27, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
Anything related to Deja Vu's removal should be posted here from now on.
Supposedly removal has began for Deja Vu. I'll be in the area across I-94 tomorrow so If its true then I'll let everyone know.
Ilovthevu' - November 27, 2007 02:56 PM (GMT)
You won't be able to see much. I just went past there on Sunday, and you can't see anything visible from the street.
jonrev - November 27, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)

^As of Friday
MrsVerticalVelocity - November 28, 2007 03:48 AM (GMT)
^Looks the same...Well, I plan on going to Gurnee to check it out someday soon...but the cold front is coming so I either better hurry or wait it out!
Luxornv - December 4, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
I'll be driving past there shortly after the 1st of the year. I won't be expecting to see anything by then either.
Luxornv - December 15, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
Sorry for the double post, but I haven't seen this posted anywhere else here. On Coasterfanatics, I've seen stuff saying that the SFGAm Deja Vu will be going to Silverwood in Idaho. Just thought someone here would like to know.
MrsVerticalVelocity - December 16, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
I drove past last night. Yeah I decided to go to the mall anyway, Jon LOL. Got some Christmas presents. It was kinda dark but the towers are definitely still there.
cycamps - December 17, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
It's really too bad that they had to remove it. I'll miss it. :(
thrill_god - January 6, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
Why do they have to remove OUR DeJa Vu? Why not SFMM's?
Ilovthevu' - January 7, 2008 04:48 AM (GMT)
The reason why they didn't remove SFMM's first is because there are a lot more important older rides, or really bad rides to move such as Flashback, the Intamin Generation Drop 1 ride, and Psyclone they removed. That's why.
In a stupid way, that's kind of funny that Iron World lasted longer than Deja Vu. Is Shapiro that stupid that Iron Wolf is still standing, but Deja Vu is gone? Iron Wolf has just gotten horrible.
sixflagger3211 - January 7, 2008 12:34 PM (GMT)
^EXACTLY!! I thought the same exact thing. It pissed me off.
Great America - January 11, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
Dejavu was a much better ride but usually wolf is open mosty of the time and vu always is closed and for the people that come to SFGAm once a year they usually never get to ride Vu.
DejaVu2001 - January 24, 2008 03:08 AM (GMT)
http://www.silverwoodthemepark.com/coaster-video.phpIt's official. Deja Vu is going to Silverwood and scheduled to open in July. No idea how they plan on having it open in July when SFGAm hasn't even started taking it down yet.
CoasterAndrew15 - January 24, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
It looks like I might go to Silverwood this year!
MrsVerticalVelocity - January 25, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
Me too. Well, I planned on that all along :D

It's a small coaster. They could be laying the ground work right now at Silverwood. You wouldn't imagine how those supports go up fast. It's all the darn footers, and land removal of trees, and other stuff that's the problem. Than, you have like a month of just testing, but the ground part is what takes a lot of time up.
andyvball - January 26, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Thats a pretty good choice to put a giant boomerang with a bunch of lower than 100ft woodies <_<
DejaVu will look so out of place there
MrsVerticalVelocity - January 27, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
^That's not necessarily a bad thing. If it stands out, it will attract more attention and maybe even make the park look better.

According to some sources, the top of the loop is gone.

| Dejavu was a much better ride but usually wolf is open mosty of the time and vu always is closed and for the people that come to SFGAm once a year they usually never get to ride Vu. |
For the first year of Deja, it wasn't open till October. I remember after that, that there was one year that it actually opened on opening day, and it wasn't 2001. I believe this was 2005. People go in October, and it's too cold and sometimes really windy to have the ride open.
Right there, you are already erasing 2 months of the year it's not open. It always seems like this ride has gotten the shaft. They have less workers, and they don't want to open it. They most likely don't want to pay more mechanics because they are more expensive than regular employees.
They never realized that people just want to get on the ride. I don't think people cared if they 9 or 3 workers working the ride. The whole thing was that it was working.
The first years problem was it miscatching. It was doing that left and right on both towers. Than they sort of fixed that. It would once and awhile miscatch on tower 2 but it just wasn't happening much anymore.
I always thought the problem tower was tower 2 for not catching it. There was one time when it has lost power, and people were stranded on it for awhile during it's run. Other times, it would get stuck on tower 1 in the air. I've only seen it maybe twice out of the years it's been there.
Later on, the ride just misparked a lot. That was a huge problem in 2006. It would close and open in like 5 minutes or less, and people would leave the line. More recently, I believe it was overheating after the ride had ended in the station. I thought this because the mechanics would stand near the generator, and it seems like it was down long enough to make the ride cool down.
Staffing was a huge reason why Deja Vu is no more. The ride breaks once every 2 hours (or less), and quite frankly the park didn't want to hire the people to work the ride because of that fact. If the park isn't that crowded, the park must have thought why open that ride because it's not worth it? They look at attendance numbers (riders per hour), and not the line time.
Every year, people say the park has "low-staffing". I think that enthusiasts kind of just excepted that. They don't hire enough people to begin with. There theory is if there is less people at the park, we don't need every ride open to save money. I think that people should stop feeling sorry for the park by saying "low-staffing". They make it as an excuse.
Wolf is my go to ride when all the rides are crowded. That's really sad, and it's amazing that Wolf is still around. Wolf has a slow loading process also. It might not be as slow as some other rides, but it's darn slow. I think that it's the least popular roller coaster, and thus that's why I think the lifeguards were working that ride.
Great America - February 18, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
There are pics up on SFGAm World of the removal.
cycamps - February 18, 2008 06:14 AM (GMT)
^Try looking again, there's a pic up of the section of the loop that has been removed.
jonrev - February 18, 2008 06:28 AM (GMT)
^That's what he just said...
HollisterGuy16 - February 18, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
My friend passed by today and told me that the whole loop is gone now. I don't know if he took a picture or not, but I'll find out
DejaVu2001 - February 18, 2008 09:08 PM (GMT)
^ Awesome. Now why couldn't they have done this in November  Even at this pace, Silverwood is still going to have trouble getting it open in July

Luxornv - March 26, 2008 08:01 AM (GMT)
Just announced, it will be called Aftershock at Silverwood. I'd guess that when they repaint it, it would likely be dark red, orange and brown.

MrsVerticalVelocity - March 27, 2008 12:24 AM (GMT)
That's stupid. The name shouldn't change. I know it's "Sliverwood's coaster now and they can do anything they want with it", but any other name besides Déjà Vu for that coaster is stupid!
CoasterAndrew15 - March 27, 2008 01:25 AM (GMT)
SF has probably copyrighted DejaVu....bastards.
MrsVerticalVelocity - March 31, 2008 11:33 PM (GMT)
Well, then I'm gonna have some trouble with the law when I own it and name it Déjà Vu again <_< No, they probably just want to rename it because they don't want confusion. It's their coaster and they just feel like it's best for them to give their own name to it, since they are a totally different park/company...even though I disagree...Déjà Vu: it's such a cool name! If it was me, I'd just keep it the same.
But we need to formulate a trip to Idaho once Overstock opens! I'm gonna start saving up some money. Whether it opens when they say or not, it's best to start saving up now! We could even have a sfgam zone trip with anyone from the forums who wants to go. That would be cool. We should go on a non-peak day so we can ride Crackerbox as much as we want to :D
Great America - March 31, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
I would have to save alot of money but that would be real fun to go visit Silverwood. IMO Aftershock is a cool name but they should just have left it as Dejavu.
jonrev - April 16, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)
I did not have my camera with me, but they have already removed the pulley wheels at the top of the towers and tower 2 is missing a huge segment of track. I'll probably be out again tomorrow with my camera.
sixflagsgurneeboy - April 16, 2008 05:10 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I saw that coming back from the mall. So long Vu....
HollisterGuy16 - April 16, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
Silverwood has to rename it becaue Six Flags owns the rights to the "Déjà Vu" name
Ilovthevu' - April 16, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
Goodbye Deja Vu:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0nX81rqtyUThat music is so fitting, but it's not like I waited for that music to come on. It's not my music. It's the parks. :(
MrsVerticalVelocity - April 17, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
You mean they DO actually own the right to that name? Crap! Now what am I going to do when I buy that coaster??? Maybe I just won't give it a name...that would be ultra weird!
Ilovthevu' - April 30, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
A ride op at the park said that because they didn't do extra maintenance last year, that they wouldn't be able to open it this year.
I think this has to do with the budget cuts. I would guess that the ride needed new cables because what I saw last year was the fact that they were tearing in the station. So, maybe those cost a lot of money to replace, or Magic Mountain got something new that ours didn't. Yet, I don't even know I can agree with that. I just think they didn't want to spend the money on it anymore. A lot of parks were removing rides left and right, and we have a lot, so I still think they want to save money.
For Magic Mountain, they dumped two roller coasters in 2 years. Do you really think they would dump Deja Vu so fast? There were bigger fish to fry (Psyclone, and Flashback.), and they aren't getting a new roller coaster to replace Deja Vu, so why get rid of it? They also dumped Freefall, Tilt-A-Whirl, Rotor, Antique cars, and the Baveryn Kurve.
SFGAm is getting a new roller coaster so at least they can say well look you get a new coaster for us taking this one away. Magic Mountain just rethemes an old coaster, and they can't say hey look you are getting a new coaster for the 3 (if Deja Vu was included) we took down.
DejaVu2001 - April 30, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
^ I don't buy that story for 2 reasons:
1. If the cables were "tearing" like you said, the ride would not have finished the season (Esp after SFKK)
2. The ride was listed for sale as being in "Excellent" mechanical condition and there was no mention of the buyer having to replace the cables.
MrsVerticalVelocity - April 30, 2008 07:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah and I don't think they could legally lie about the excellent condition either.
