Picked up this old Penney's portable TV for dirt cheap since it can be connected to an external antenna, so it would work after the DTV Transition (my SONY Watchman won't).

Found a DC cord to test it but got lazy and must have grabbed the wrong cord and suddenly there was a "POP" and smoke came pouring out...

Anyone know who repairs vintage TV's?

You should bring the TV to some local repair center who fixes TVs like the one you have. Ask them how and why the TV broke and show them the problem. If they can't fix it, just throw it away.

I'm not tossing it, it's definitely reparable, and I drove to Waukegan to get it. It looks like it just needs that part and it will be fine.

Gah, Radio Shack got me nowhere.

Try replacing the capacitor. Just make sure you get the correct size and solder it in correctly. I think Radio Shack would at least be able to get you that. If not and you happen to be around Milwaukee, I might have some friends that can figure it out.

Radio Shack didn't have the capacitor, but my dad says he might and can solder it in when he has time.

Manufactured August 1984. With everything digital, it's pretty much crap now, however unlike my Sony Watchman, this one can be hooked up to an external antenna/cable.
