Anyone hear about some new waterpark that's going to be built in Kenosha/Pleasant Prairie area?
A friend of mine said they were building one up there as big (or bigger) than Hurricane Harbor. Supposedly sports oriented with white water rafts and fishing type things?
I can't imagine anyone building a new waterpark in an economy where parks are closing down every month, but ya never know till you ask.
To me, there were reasons why those waterparks were either closed, or are bankrupt.
Maybe, you never heard of Racing Rapids, but that waterpark closed before too. This was before the "economy thing". The downfall of Racing Rapids was probably more because of Santa's Village not doing good than Racing Rapids. However to me, at Racing Rapids they didn't have many attractions, so is it worth the extra $15 difference than your park pool.
There is a park pool around me (not mine) that has maybe 2 water slides, and a Lazy River. Racing Rapids had 1 tube slide, bumper boats, Go-Karts, 2 (the same type of slide) adult mat slide, and 1 kiddie mat slide. So, how much difference is it for such a huge increase more?? It wasn't much. Hurricane Harbor has much more than your local pool though does, and so does Magic Waters.
The thing with waterparks outdoors is that they are usually so much cheaper to build than amusement parks! At SFGAm, they spent some $15 million for ONE ride, but not a waterslide. I don't really know how much the Tornado was, but maybe it was $1 million instead of tons of money like $15 million.
These parks in IL and WI are trying to get people not to go to Wisconsin Dells, and make those parks close. It is somewhat a good idea, but you have to make sure these waterparks are packed with much more stuff than a local pool because these local pools are adding some other stuff.
I have tried several municipal waterparks and a few of the indoor waterparks. It's just not the same. I went to one in Lake Geneva and froze the whole time I was there. I just tough it out during the off season because the disappointment of those parks just exacerbates the off season blues.
