Title: A mission of great importance
Tiki - March 6, 2010 04:08 PM (GMT)
Most of you are very knowledgeable about SFGA so I need your help.
I have my house landscaped and decorated to look like Hurricane Harbor. Most of my plants are tropicals and have to be brought indoors for the winter. I have some palms but they're small because they have to be moved.
I would like large 10'+ palm trees but then they couldn't be moved.
So my question is this; Do the palm tree's they have at Hurricane Harbor get shipped in fresh every season? Or are they some kind of preserved tree's that stay out all year? They look and feel real and so I don't think they're artificial. Does anyone here know?
Thanks!

Considering they're brown and dead by the end of the season, I would think they're replaced.

I don't remember them being brown and dead. I thought maybe since they were in root ball bags that they moved them indoors over the winter. I have considered the "preserved" ones for my place, but they're prohibitively expensive. Or maybe theirs are some sort of winter hardy species that I've never heard of?

Maybe I'm thinking of the Buccaneer Battle ones. Can't remember

And I didn't even notice any palm trees there! I am as sharp as a marble nowadays!

DEMON 10 was right!
They (The palm trees) are real and replaced each season! As evidenced by the pictures I just posted the link to previously. Real palms that size are $500-$1500 each (depending upon height) plus delivery.
I wonder if they'll have them this year with all the money troubles? It won't be the same without them.

They are fake, and do get shipped in. I have seen them during sometime just laying there it seemed like in the parking lot.
To me, it's a waste of money to keep on replacing them. Get fake ones.

The trees maybe artificially preserved for longer life, but aren't fake. Below is a picture of them dead taken this winter. So they are shipped in every season.

Seems like a terrible waste of money to me they could just as easily go for fake ones and not have to worry about the clean up of all the extra debris.

I would venture a guess that the plant order for the entire park is probably close to fifty thousand a season.

The palm trees are imported, but all of the park's flowers are grown in a large greenhouse on the east side of the park, out of public view.

Well that's smart and probably saves them a lot of money. I wonder why they don't winter their palm tree's in there? I winter mine in my house. That would save them a good chunk too.

^Maybe, not enough room for those palm trees.

I'm assuming Hurricane Harbor has their own budget monies. So, they use that. Persumably.
Tiki - April 16, 2010 12:29 PM (GMT)
That's probably correct, but money is money. Those palms aren't cheap so it would be worthwhile to winter them indoors.
It probably has more to do with how they are planted. Tree's that tall cannot be put in pots (safely) and uprooting them would probably kill them so they just let them die in place and plant new ones each season. But there are very hardy preserved palms that can be used. That would save money in plants and labor.
